In "Raymond's Run", Squeaky is a young girl who has to take care of two things in her life. She has to take care of her older brother, Raymond, who is developmentally disabled. Taking care of Raymond is enough as a "chore" of hers because it takes her a lot of time. That is why she has no other household chores. She manages to do that while she practices her running. When Squeaky and Raymond walk downtown sometimes, they meet some of Squeaky's female classmates who try to imitate Raymond by trying to engage him in a conversation, which of course he cannot handle, Squeaky always shuts them down decisively. Squeaky says that if anybody has anything to say to Raymond, they have to speak to her.

Squeaky says that she is the fastest thing on two feet. Everyone knows that, except for her and her father, who know better. They know that her father is a bit faster than her, but because he is at 35 years of age, of course, he cannot run. The girls in Squeaky's class pretend they have natural talents (like playing piano), while they practice making it look like natural talents. Squeaky is getting ready to win the first place medal on the day of the big May Day Race.

On the day of the big May Day race, Squeaky doesn't participate in the activities that distract her from looking after Raymond. But instead, she settles Raymond into a swing on the other side of the fence where he can watch her and she starts preparing for the race. Squeaky notices Raymond running with her along the fence. That made her think that she can finally make a talent out of Raymond by coaching him into running.

This is from memory but I'll try my best.

Raymond's Run is about a girl named Squeaky who is a runner and has a mentally challenged brother named Raymond. She goes to the May Day festival and decides to participate in the running contest. Her main opponent is a girl named Gretchen. When she is about to run, she sees Raymond also getting ready to run as well. Before the race, Squeaky thinks her brother could be a good runner. She runs the race and thinks she won, but the judges still have to debate on who won. Squeaky realizes that she should start coaching her brother and decides to focus on her schoolwork more. She is eventually announced as the winner of the race.
