The planes represented a significant sign to the people of Berlin, the German capital city located deep in the Soviet-occupied zone. The planes signified a sign to resolve and stand up to the Soviet dictator, Joseph Stalin who wanted the control of Berlin, the Russians who wanted Berlin to themselves closed all the roads and railroads. They believed by doing this the British, U.S and France people would starve but the U.S and its allies took effort and supplied all sectors from the air.
The plains were mainly from British and American governments aided to supply food, medicine and coal to the Berliners.
The effort is usually referred to as ''Berlin Airlift'' where for over 1 year 2.3 millions tons of cargo was carried to Berlin.
