The Checker’s Speech was the speech made by Senator of California, ’Richard Nixon’ on September 23, 1952. During the time of his speech, he was the presidential candidate from the Republican Party. He was accused of improprieties related to fund which was established by his backers for his political expenses. His place as the presidential candidate was in doubt so he flew to Los Angeles and delivered a half hour speech which is popularly known as ‘Checker’s Speech’ and in that speech he defended himself from all the attacks made by opponents and urged people listening his speech to contact Republican national committee to tell whether or not he should hold on to ticket of presidency or not. Checker was accused of using public money which came for his political campaigning for personal use and that was around 18000 dollars which was considered as a huge amount during that time but checker rejected all the allegations. But most part of his speech diverted from political attacks to a dog whose name was ‘Checker’. He said that he will be gifting a dog called checker to his children. This speech and especially the dog part in the speech diverted attention of people from elections to dog ‘Checker’ and that speech was a big hit.
