1. All of the Above; Mexico was open to people settling if they were willing to assimilate into Mexican Culture and Society. 
2. They feared the competition with Black Laborers; Northern white workers feared that without slavery blacks would move north and take their jobs because they would work for less pay than what the whites were demanding. 
3. Those groups often had a tradition of matrilineal culture; This culture placed a heavy influence on the females in the family. Think about it in that instead of a mother changing her name upon marriage the father's name, it would be the oppposite. The man would take the wife's name upon marriage.
