The Lithium Aluminum hydride (LiAlH₄) reduction of a ketone is a process in which the ketone is reduced and the Lithium Aluminum hydride is oxidized. The general chemical reaction for this kind of reduction is:

              1)LiAlH₄
R(C=O)R ---------→R(C-OH)R 
              2)H₃O⁺

The structure for one of the isomeric C₅H₁₂O alcohols that can be prepared by lithium aluminum hydride reduction of a ketone is shown in the attached image, the compound is called 3-Pentanol:
