The Olive Branch Petition, also
known as The Humble Petition, was the second letter sent to King George III by
the Americans. The letter actually declared that they will still be loyal to
the crown given that the King just listens to some of the colonies’ grievances.
King George III disregarded the letter and declared the colonies forming a
rebellion against him. King George III ordered a blockade to cut off the trade
and supplies to the colonies as this was punishment for rebelling against his
rule. With his disregard for his people, the Olive Branch Petition was one of
the many reasons for the Revolutionary War.Â
