The Invasion of Normandy, also known as "D Day", was the Allied landing on the shore of Normandy, France, on June 6th, 1944. The operation was actually delayed in 24 hours as bad weather conditions arose. There was a further threat of delaying the operation for 2 weeks, as invasion planners argued that the phases of the Moon sharply altered the tides in the sea. Therefore, there were only a few days in the month which were suitable.
