People believed they were at the centre of the universe (the geocentric model) and felt important- everything literally revolved around them. But with Galileo’s proof and support of the heliocentric model, the Church felt threatened because it believed that God created the world for human beings. His discoveries would make people realize that there was so much more out there and that perhaps we are not really the most important in the universe. His work revolutionized the way we saw the world and perceived ourselves.
