Past progressive tense is similar to past tense in that the event is in the past. Past tense, as you may know, is used to mention something that did happen. The main difference between past progressive and past tense is that while past tense mentions something that did happen, past progressive will be used to mention something that was in the process of being done. There will typically be the linking verb “was,” and that will be accompanied with a verb that ends in “ing” as in “was watching.”
