Misattribution of arousal
Misattribution of arousal refers to the phenomenon when an individual mislabels the actual cause of arousal they experience. For instance, if an individual has consumed too much caffeine, he or she might experience physiological arousal (increased heart rate, sweaty palms, etc.), and attribute the arousal to romantic feelings. Similarly, if a person is physiologically aroused by fear or exercise, he/she might make an error in labeling the source of his/her arousal.
