The colonization in Santo Domingo was the first test of Spanish conquest and colonization in America. There arose the starting points of the colonial administration that later expanded throughout the continent. They practiced an economy of planters, the search for gold and the exploitation of deposits led to a rapid demographic decline in Santo Domingo.
