you have to first get the x by its self by canceling it out so subtract 3 and what you do to one side you do to the other. so that means that -3(-3) two negatives = a positive so thats 6 so what you should have now is    x+6

For other ppl looking at this question here's the answer.
First you have to put [tex]x+8[/tex] and [tex]2x-1[/tex] equal
Like this [tex]x +8=2x-1[/tex]
Then you have to get x on one side 
So Add 1 to both sides which cancels out the [tex]-1[/tex]
And you have [tex]x+9=2x[/tex] left 
Then subtract x from both sides 
And you get [tex]x=9[/tex].
