Amy was asked to multiply and number by 8 and then add 5. Instead, she added 8 to the number and then multiplied the result by 5. This gave her 2015. What would the answer have been if Amy had followed the instructions correctly?

she did (x+8)*5

2015 = (x+8)*5

divide both sides by 5

403=x+8

x = 403-8 = 395


using same number if she followed instructions it would be

395*8 =3160+5 = 3165
