Within the central and peripheral nervous system (CNS - Brain and PNS - Spinal Cord), neurons are cells that carry information.
In order to transfer information throughout the CNS and PNS, neurons employ chemical signals and electrical impulses known as neurotransmitters.
Most neurons consist of three components: an axon, a cell body, and dendrites.
1. Axon:
A long, thin connecting thread called an axon extends from the cell body to connect to other neurons and transmit electrical impulses to them. Axons are in charge of actively transmitting information throughout the whole body through these impulses. The axons resemble long tails. They divide into a variety of smaller branches that extend in the direction of the axons of adjacent neurons.
2. Cell body:
The neuron's nucleus is located inside the cell body. The genetic code is stored in the nucleus. The cytoplasm, the fluid that contains the majority of the cellular components within the neuron, is also a part of it.
3. Dendrites:
Although dendrites also protrude from the neuron's cell body, they are in charge of receiving messages sent by other neurons.
Dendrites, which resemble tree branches, gather data to return to the neuron. One neuron can connect with another through the end of each dendrite. They are referred to as synapses. They are abundant on dendrites.
