Did the North side or the South side of the Civil war want slavery? Also what were some of the causes of the Civil war?

the south wanted to keep the slavery, while the north didn't.... P.S buffalo soldiers fought in the civil war and the spanish american war, buffalo soldiers were the first African american group to fight in a war
