September 11th, 2001, was a turning point in U.S. History because it led to the U.S. being more active against terrorism which led to changes in both domestic and international policy.
In order to ensure that the attacks of September 11th, 2001 never happened again, the United States introduced sweeping counterterrorism practices that infringed on the freedoms of many Americans. This was unprecedented in U.S. History.
The United States also became much more proactive in dealing with anti-terrorist attacks which led to the two major wars including the Afghanistan War and the Iraqi War. Both these wars cost a lot of American lives and resources and did not conclude well.
