Medically Unlikely Edits (MUE) are the edits which flags cases that report an excessive number of units of service reported on a single encounter date and CMS publishes most MUE values on it's website.
The purpose of MUE edits is to reduce the improper payment rate for Part B claims and are used by Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs). MUE are designed to limit fraud and coding errors.
The MUE value cannot be overridden or bypassed with a modifier as it is an absolute date of service limit. The status of MUE can be either public or confidential which may change overtime and confidential ones are not releasable.
