Respuesta :
The idea behind nuclear fusion is to develop technology that would mimic the process that powers our Sun naturally, in which two light atoms, in this case hydrogen, fuse together at extremely high temperatures to create helium.
With essentially no carbon emissions, the process would produce enormous amounts of clean energy from a nearly endless fuel supply. It hasn't been carried out on a scale that would make it practical, though. With plans to harness and advance nuclear fusion technology, Canadian scientists hope to reverse that by delivering a functioning nuclear fusion plant prototype by 2030.
PROS of nuclear fusion are:
- It is relatively cost-competitive.
- It produces high energy density.
- It causes less pollution.
- It can be sustainable.
Cons of Nuclear Fusion are:
- It is extremely difficult to achieve.
- It produces radioactive waste.
- More research and brainpower is needed to solve its issues.
- Its practical energy returns are still quite unreachable.
What is Nuclear Transmutation?
The transformation of one chemical element or isotope into another chemical element is known as nuclear transmutation. Nuclear transmutation happens whenever the quantity of protons or neutrons in an atom's nucleus changes.
Nuclear reactions, where a nucleus and an outside particle interact, or radioactive decay, where no outside cause is required, can both result in a transmutation.
