The instructed-delegate view of representation requires representatives to reflect the views of their constituents

The instructed or the delegate model of representation is a model of a representative democracy. In such a model, the constituents elect their representatives as delegates for their constituency. This means that these delegates or the elected representatives have to act in such a way that best serves the interest of their people.

This eventually means that these representatives must consider their electorate, territory or state when they are making decisions.

There are basically four types of representation- substantive representation, descriptive representation, dyadic representation and collective representation.
