What is insulator ?

A substance that prevents free flow of electrical current is known as an electrical insulator. The electrons in the insulator's atoms are securely bonded and immobile. Electric current can flow more freely through conductors and semiconductors than other materials. An insulator can be identified by its resistivity, which is higher than that of semiconductors or conductors. Non-metals are the most prevalent examples.

There is no such thing as a perfect insulator since even insulators have minute amounts of mobile charges (charge carriers) that can carry current. Additionally, when a sufficiently high voltage is supplied to the point where the electric field separates electrons from the atoms, all insulators turn into electrically conductive materials. This is referred to as an insulator's breakdown voltage. PTFE, glass, and paper are examples of materials with high resistance.
