The ideals of the eighteenth century enlightenment had only been realized to a little degree from the period of the French Revolution to the ww2.

What was the 18th century enlightenment?

This was the spread of philosophical teachings that were bordered on:

  • Tolerance
  • Progress
  • Liberty
  • Separation of state and church.

In the period betwen the French revolution and ww2 the events that occurred showed that the world was still behind on these ideals.

On the issue of tolerance we saw the Jews being killed by the Germans for their religion. People still faced great issues of poverty and unemployment. Most governments were a dictatorship .
