What is ethos?

'Ethos' is usually defined as: the fundamental character or spirit of a culture; the underlying sentiment that informs the beliefs, customs, or practices of a group or society; dominant assumptions of a people or period.

Ethos is a Greek word meaning "character" that is sued to describe the guiding beliefs or ideals that characterize a community, nation, or ideology. The Greeks also used this word to refer to the power of music or to influence emotions, behaviors, and even morals. Early Greek stories of Orpheus exhibit this idea in a compelling way.

Ethos is a very important rhetorical device in speeches because it establishes a sense of credibility and trustworthiness with the audience.

Ethos refers to the credibility of a speaker and includes three dimensions:

1. Competence:

- The quality of being competent; adequacy; possession of required skill, knowledge, qualification, or capacity

- An income sufficient to furnish the necessities and modest comforts of life

- Sufficiency; a sufficient quantity

- Of a witness, a party to a contract, etc., legal capacity or qualification based on the meeting of a certain minimum requirements of age, soundness of mind, citizenship, or the like

- The sum total of possible developmental responses of any group of blastemic cells under varied external conditions

- The implicit, internalized knowledge of a language that a speaker possesses and that enables the speaker to produce and understand the language

2. Trustworthiness:

-  Deserving of trust or confidence; dependable; reliable

- relates to a speaker's perceived honesty and trustworthiness.

3. Dynamism:

The degree to which audience members consider a speaker to be outgoing and lively is referred to as dynamism. Charisma and energy are two aspects of dynamism. Charisma is a term that describes a combination of abstract and concrete characteristics that make a speaker appealing to an audience.

In light of this, we can infer that option A obviously employs ethos. It's the only flyer with a sentence that mentions the candidate's leadership experience.
