Rewrite the fractions to have a common denominator:

Juan: 31/7 x 3 = 93/21

Ari: 19/3 x 7 = 133/21


now you can subtract:

133/21 - 93/21 = 40/21 pounds = 1 and 19/21 pounds heavier
