The Dorians
The Dorians are one of the four major ethnic groups which comprise the Hellenes of Classical Greece. Other ethnic groups are;
- Aeolians
- Achaeans
- Ionians
The Dorians migrated and settled mainly in the southern and eastern Peloponnese.
The Dorian Empire
The Dorians are a people who existed in ancient Greece. Their name was derived from the myth of Dorus, who was the son of Hellen. They originated in northwestern region of Epirus and South western Macedonia, they migrated through central Greece and into the Peloponnesus after defeating and displacing the original inhabitants who were the Achaeans.
The Dorians were basically into warfare. They possessed iron weapons. The Dorians ruled the many ethnic groups in ancient Greece for about 400 years. They were hated by the various tribes they conquered because of their cruelty and brutality. After about 400 years of Dorian rule, the villagers and local inhabitants organized themselves and revolted.

Ancient Greece was a collection of states with individual government.
The people spoke the same language, believed in the same godsand shared a common culture. They often referred to themselves as Greeks although they were fiercely loyal to their individual states.
After about 400 years of Dorian rule, the Greeks revolted and chased away the Dorians bringing an end to the dark ages. This resulted to Villages coming together to better protect themselves and improve trade.

Homer was an ancient Greek author and epic poet who was greatly reputed for his poems the Iliad and Odyssey. He is reputed as one of the greatest and most influential authors of all time.
