Mae sells newspaper subscriptions door-to-door. In addition to a fixed salary, she earns a commission for each subscription that she sells. The table shows Mae’s total earnings, y (in dollars), from selling x newspaper subscriptions:

Subscriptions Sold and Earnings
Subscriptions Sold
(x) Total Earnings
(y)
1 135
2 145
3 155

Which equation best shows the relationship between x and y?
y = 10x + 125
y = x + 135
y = 10x + 135
y = x + 10

Respuesta :

A. y = 10x + 125

Basically, we need to follow two formulas, beginning with the one below. It's quite easy once you get the hand of it. You're just inserting your numbers then doing the math.

m= [tex]\frac{y2 - y1}{x2-x1}[/tex]

First, we need to find 'm'. To find 'm', we'll follow our first formula.

m= [tex]\frac{y2 - y1}{x2-x1}[/tex] = [tex]\frac{145-135}{2-1}  = \frac{10}{1} = 10[/tex]

m= 10

Now that we've solved for m, we have a new formula, and in the new formula we have to solve for 'b'. *plug in your first y input*

y = mx + b

*plug in your first x input and multiply it by your 'm'*

135 = 10*1 + b

135 = 10 + b

*pretend that b is now your y and switch the old y position with the b*

b = 135 - 10

b = 125

Now that we have solved for b, we need to go back to our second formula and plug all of our new 'm' and 'b' numbers in.

y = 10x + 125

And there you go, your answer. :)

I hope this isn't too confusing! It's a little hard to explain through brainly, but hopefully you got what I was explaining, lol. I recently figured how to solve these formulas, and when I did, I was very happy. If you don't get it now, you will eventually, trust me.

Total earning is fixed earning plus earning by commission per selling.

The equation that best represents the relationship between x and y is:

Option A: [tex]y = 10x + 125[/tex]

Given that:

  • Mae's total earnings is denoted by y (in dollars)
  • Income of Mae is fixed.
  • Mae gets commission on each paper sold.

To find:

The equation representing relationship between the number of papers sold(x) and total earnings(y).

Equation for total earning:

Total earning = Fixed earning + commission on each paper sold

y = e + mx

wheere m is commission amount, x is number of paper sold, e is fixed earning of Mae.

Thus:

From given table, we have:
[tex]135 = m(1) + e\\ 145 = m(2) + e\\ 15 5= m(3) + e\\ [/tex]

Subtracting equation second from first, we get:

10 = m

Putting this value in equation 1, we get:

[tex]135 = 10(1) + e\\ 135 - 10 = e\\ e = 125[/tex]

Thus, the relationship between x and y is [tex]y = mx + c = 10x + 125[/tex]

Thus, Option A: [tex]y = 10x + 125[/tex] is correct.
