Cousins to anteaters, they belong to two biological families: the two-toed sloth to the Megalonychidae family and the three-toed sloth to the Bradypodidae family. They originate from the jungles of Central and South America, where they dwell in trees and live off of plant buds, shoots, and leaves. Sloths come by their name honestly: They are extremely slow moving creatures with low metabolic rates.
