Too much light can damage and degrade the reaction centre D1-polypeptide also its sensitive to cold as well as heat. It is slower under cold conditions. And of course it is sensitive to sunlight. Too much or too little sunlight reduces the rate of photosynthesis.
Even though light is the ultimate substrate for photosynthetic energy conversion, it can also harm plants. This toxicity is targeted to the water-splitting photosystem II and leads to damage and degradation of the reaction centre D1-polypeptide.
