Hope this help, feel free to revise, I am just giving what I answered.

Explanation:

Three causes of the Spanish-American War were American support for Cuban independence, the sinking of the USS Maine, and protection of business interests in Cuba. In 1895, a revolution broke out in Cuba, this caused the American people to have sympathy for Cubans. The revolt disrupted trade with the United States and threatened American investments in Cuba. American newspapers printed exaggerated reports about Cuba. This strengthened American support for Cubans. There was growing imperialism in America. The main reason Americans cared about Cuban independence is because Cuba offered many business owners great shipping opportunities. Cuba, at the time, was economically founded on ship ports and trading, but was heavily monitored by Spain. The United States also didn't like the fact that Spanish ships were so close to their borders. Tensions would rise slowly over the years 1890-1898. The United States finally declared war on Spain after the U.S. warship, the Maine, exploded and sank on February 15, 1898 while visiting Havana, Cuba.
