Transgenic animals are animals (most commonly mice) that have had a foreign gene deliberately inserted into their genome. Such animals are most commonly created by the microinjection of DNA into the pronuclei of a fertilized egg which is subsequently implanted into the oviduct of a pseudo regnant surrogate mother.
What are the uses of transgenic animals?
Applications of animal transgenesis is to obtain information on gene function and regulation as well as on human diseases and to obtain high value products to be used for human therapy.
