The reason kids are more susceptible to water injuries and deaths is because they are kids. Without proper supervision they are most likely going to hurt themselves. This could be either because of inexperience with the items they're using or inability to swim properly in areas that are beyond their reach. That coupled with improper supervision could easily lead to death or at the very least injury due to water intake. Kids are more susceptible to water injury simply because they lack the necessary skill to determine whether or not they are capable of things. In short they are stupid.
