What is the official language of the United States? What benefits and problems do you see with this choice?

The United States does not have an official language, but they use English, specifically American English, for legislation, regulation and other official pronouncements.. The benefits far out way the drawbacks, because most of the country speaks English.

The United States is one of the few countries in the world that does not have an official language. The majority of the population speaks English; however, there are large number of Spanish-speaking people as well. With the influx of migrants from East Asia, a number of Asian languages, such as Chinese and Japanese, are spoken in several communities in the Western states. The benefits of having no official language is that most government documents and papers are written in several different languages. This allows immigrants to feel more comfortable in their transition to becoming United States citizens without the stress of dealing with language barriers. One problem of not having an official language is that language unites people. Communication problems exist among people and communities that speak different languages. There are many other benefits and problems as well.
