They wanted to exterminate them because the Turks thought that the Armenians weren’t loyal to the Ottoman Empire due to being a different religion. They thought that despite having to pay higher taxes Armenians found ways to become educated and wealthy so they would be more loyal to Christian governments. The Turks felt threatened and the government made a plan to getting rid of Armenians due brutal murder.
