Could someone please help me? Im failing my class and I need help answering these questions to help lift them up a bit.

With what velocity must a 0.53-kg softball be moving to equal the momentum of a 0.145-kg baseball moving at 21 m/s?
How fast would an 850 kg car have to travel to have the same momentum as a 3000 kg truck traveling at 15 m/s?

Answer:

Velocity of the softball = 5.745m/s

Velocity of the car = v = 52.941m/s

Explanation:

Momentum can be found with the equation

P = m * v

For this question we need to essentially make momentum (P) of one object, equal to the other object using the equation of momentum.

P of the softball = P of the baseball

m * v, of the softball = m * v, of the baseball

Substitute in our values and solve for the missing velocity of the softball

0.53 * v = 0.145 * 21

Divide both sides by 0.53 to solve for v

v = [tex]\frac{0.145*21}{0.53}[/tex]

v = 5.745m/s

We can do the exact same calculation for the car and truck

I encourage you to give this one a go yourself using the exact same logic as above!

v = 52.941m/s
