The story is said from Bruno's point of view.

Explanation:

  • Bruno's father is promoted as a commandant and had to relocate to a concentration camp. Bruno hates moving to the camp. He describes the new house as barren and depressing and stays with his friends. Bruno isolates himself from the family and befriends Shmuel.
  • Once Maria finds Bruno stuffing his pocket with food even after he had stomach full. When she asked him about that, he said that he was going for a walk. He did not want to reveal his friendship with Shmuel.
  • He feels ashamed after lying.
