Calypso in Homer’s The Odyssey is a goddess and nymph. She fell in love with Odysseus and forced him to remain as her husband and prisoner. In the pirates of the Caribbean she was a powerful Sea Goddess and was in love with Davy Jones but was betrayed by him. This betrayal resulted in her being capture by pirates. She then was trapped in human form. All this are differences from Calypso in The Odyssey.
I think that she derived from the same myth, though not the same character.
