 and,

                   (x+5) (y-10) = 1000..............................(2)

Solving,

                   (x+5) ([tex]\frac{1000}{x}[/tex] -10)= 1000

             or, (x+5) ( [tex]\frac{1000-10x}{x}[/tex]) = 1000

             or, (x+5) (1000-10x) = 1000x

             or, x= 20

And,

              y = 50

Hence there were 20 people when the amount was distributed.
