The tropical or evergreen rain forests are biomes that found around and in close proximity to the Equator, thus on the low latitudes. They can be found on five continents and two oceanic/sea regions:

  • North America
  • South America
  • Africa
  • Asia
  • Australia
  • Caribbean
  • Oceania

There are several characteristics that define these forests. They are composed of plants that are always green and are active all year around. There is stratification of the forest by height. The trees, on average surpass in height any other type of forest except the small sequoia forest in California. The plants are well adapted to high temperatures, high humidity, and high amounts of water. In these forests there is the highest biodiversity by far.
