What is an insulator?
An insulator is a substance which is a poor conductor of heat or electricity. Some examples of insulators are glass, rubber etc.
The transfer of heat from one region to another due to the difference in temperatures is known as conduction. It occurs without the moving of the entire material itself. An insulator does not transfer this heat readily. Therefore, the handles and bars of cooking utensils are usually made up of insulators.
When we added hot soup in a bowl, it still was cool to touch. This means that the material of the bowl was not able to transfer the heat energy.
Hence, we can assume that the bowl is a good insulator of heat.
