He was born in a poor family. This means that he was born as a person with low social status. He will most grew up without any resources or ability to influence people.
After working hard and getting a business degree , he managed to get a big enough salary that made him move to the upper middle class status. Now, he obtained enough resources (salary) to live comfortable and probably have a couple of people working under him (more influence) .
