Claudette Colvin's personal life made her an unlike candidate at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.

Explanation:

Colvin was one of the first dissenters in the Civil Rights movement of 60s but her actions remained unnoticed, despite her having to spend a night in jail for it.

According to the book, this was because she got pregnant as a teen shortly after the incident and the movement leaders understood that the opposition could 'eat her alive'.

So it was thought best to talk less about the incident and not bring Colvin to the forefront. Other similar cases presented themselves as more suitable cases with less problematic lives that people could not barge into to discredit them.
