Coherence is best described as the unity in a paragraph. Coherence is seen in a paragraph if the ideas within are related and connected as well as logical and consistent. Coherence can be achieved in a variety of ways: using transitions, ordering sequence and following a certain pattern--general to specific, or from specific to general and the use of cause and effect.
