Respuesta :

A linear function represents a line, a quadratic function represents a parabola.

The dots fit a parabolic behaviour (they are descendent at the beginning, they reach a minimum and then start growing again), so a quadratic model could fit the dots much better than a linear one.

The better fit for the plotted points in the given graph is;

Quadratic Model.

  • A linear model equation means that, the graph will be a straight line graph, whereas a quadratic model equation means that the graph will be in the form of a parabola.

  • Another difference is that linear model equation on a graph is either increasing only or decreasing only whereas quadratic model exhibits both decreasing and increasing behavior.

  • Now, the coordinate  points we have been given is showing the graph initially decreasing till it gets to its' bottom peak after which it starts increasing again.

  • According to our earlier comparison of linear and quadratic models, it is clear that this graph has shown 2 patterns which is both increasing and decreasing. Thus, the model that best fits it is quadratic Model.
