Answer:

Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. When he was three, both his parents died and he was left in the care of his grandfather John Allan. Poe went to school in England, but he was forced to leave his school (University of Virginia). He then joined the army and got accepted to West Point, but was dismissed due to rule infractions, and was then cut off by his grandfather.

He had published three pieces of poetry by this time, and when he was working as an editor, he married his 13-year-old cousin Virginia. Due to alcoholism, he lost his job at the Messenger, and he moved to Philadelphia where he got a job working for a new journal. He became well known for his dark horror stories such as "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "The Tell-Tale Heart". He moved to New York City later in his life and found great success with his poem, "The Raven", but his wife's passing of tuberculosis drove him into a depressive state. He looked for a new wife, but just before the wedding, he was found dead of suspected alcohol poisoning.
