Part 1

Define and describe each of the following forms of energy, and then classify each as either: potential energy, kinetic energy, or a transfer of some quantity of energy

Chemical

Elastic

Electric (circuits)

Electromagnetic (light, x Ray's, microwaves, etc)

Gravitational

Heat

Movement of mass

Nuclear

Sound

Static electric

Thermal

Work

Part 2

There are many ways of generating electrical energy. Research three of the following, describe how they work, and discuss the pros and cons of each of the three chosen kinds of electrical power plants:

Thermal power plant (aka coal power plant)

Nuclear power plant

Solar power plant

Hydroelectric power plant

Geothermal power plant

Tidal power plant

Wind farms

Part 3

Research the future of energy production. What improvements to (or new methods of) electrical energy production are scientists currently developing? How will they improve on present methods of energy production (what makes these new methods better than the old)? What are the cons of these improvements?

Answer:

PART 1

Potential energy: This is the energy stored in an object due to its position.

Chemical energy: Is energy stored in the bonds of a chemical compound and this energy is released during the reaction when interacted with the form of heat.

Elastic energy: It is stored potential energy in an elastic object when subjected to any deformation or change in shape.

Gravitational energy: It is the energy possessed by an object due to its position in a gravitational field.

Electric energy: Energy due to the flow of charged particles. It is a type of stored potential energy due to the relative position of a charged particle.

Nuclear energy: it is energy stored in the nucleus of an atom. This energy kept the particles present inside the nucleus bound together.

Static electricity: It is electricity that arises due to the presence of an imbalance in charge within or on the surface of the material.

Transfer of some quantity of energy:

Heat energy: Transfer or flow of energy from one object to another in the form of heat. This transfer is due to a difference in temperature of two objects.

Electromagnetic energy:  It is a form of energy emitted by the magnetic field and electric field vibrating perpendicular to each other while propagation of the electromagnetic wave. Energy transfer takes place in the form of electromagnetic waves.

Sound energy: is the energy produced by the vibration of sound waves. the energy transferred from one substance to another in the form of the sound wave.

Kinetic energy: Its an energy possessed by an object due to its motion.

Movement of mass: It is an energy that leads to movement of the mass of an object.

Thermal work: It is an energy posses by the body due to the movement of the particles.
