Who/what was most responsible for the settlement of the American frontier? The Treaty of Paris the Second Continental Congress unofficial colonial groups the French Armed Forces

Respuesta :

The Treaty of Paris was most responsible for the settlement of the American frontier, since it entailed the recognition of the United States as an independent nation and the possibility for the country to secure and eventually occupy all the land east of the Mississippi River (except for Florida and British Canada), as well as the opportunity for the settlers to finally expand and settle west of the Appalachian Mountains - they had been prevented from doing so by the British.

Answer: C. unofficial colonial groups the

Explanation:

Proclamation of 1763. As a result of the deficiencies of the English army, England passed the Proclamation of 1763. The Proclamation forbade the colonies to allow any settlers to move west of an imaginary line drawn along the crest of the Alleghenies. Settlers and fur traders alike were not allowed to pass into the hunting grounds of the Native Americans. This proclamation was not meant to be permanent, merely a way to appease the discontent of the Native Tribes and reduce the costs associated with the ongoing battles. The British thought this proclamation would be a way of halting the Native American uprising in the Ohio valley.

The colonists, however, viewed the proclamation as a direct attack on their liberties that had been included in the original colonial charters. Many settlers had already moved into the area. The Ohio Company had been formed in 1749 to open the rich lands of the Ohio valley. The settlers were convinced of their ability to defend themselves against Native American attacks. Therefore, the colonists viewed the proclamation as a scheme to cheat them of the lands which they regarded as a rightful inheritance. The colonists believed that the proclamation was being used to keep them penned between the Allegheny Mountains and the Atlantic coast, making it easier for Great Britain to keep them in line. The law was openly disobeyed as wagons loaded with colonists headed west to settle anyway.
