This number is : x

you have : x + 2x² = 6

2x² + x -6 = 0

Δ = b² -4ac a = 2 , b = 1 , c = 6

Δ = 1² - 4(2)(6) = 49 = 7²

X1 = (- 1 +7)/4 = 3/2

X2 = (-1-7)/4 = -2
