Strands of DNA bond onto complementary stands using hydrogen bonds. A complements T and G complements C meaning the correct answer is TAGCCG.

Answer: The compementary strand is TAGCCG.

DNA ( deoxyribonucleic acid)  is composed of two complementary strands which give it a double helical structure. Both strands are antiparallel meaning that if one strand reads in 5' to 3' direction, its complementary will be in 3' to 5' direction.

The monomer of DNA is dNTP ( deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate) which consists of the phosphate, deoxyribose sugar and nitogenous base. There are four nitrogenous bases in the DNA - Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, and Thymine. In the complementary strands, one nitrogenous base pairs with another nitogenous base placed at the corresponding position through hydrogen bonding.

  • Adenine pairs with Thymine through two hydrogen bonds (A=T)
  • Guanine pairs with Cytosine through three hydrogen bonds (G≡C)

Thus complementary strand of given DNA sequence ATCGGC is TAGCCG.
