The capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Army, under the command Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II on 29th May 1453.
This is a modern city of Istanbul and the surrounding area. Istanbul is the place where the ancient city of Byzantium was located, and the place where Constantine decided to build a new capital for Rome.
