When considering the philosophy of ancient China, the three main schools of thought discussed are Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, also known as the Three Teachings.Taoism stresses balance (yin and yang) in all aspects of life, including government. Buddhism, which began in India, also puts an emphasis on balance, but also stresses spirituality and an emphasis on the afterlife and future reincarnation.
Confucianism is less concerned with the supernatural and more concerned with how to construct a well-functioning society. It includes an emphasis on filial piety (respecting elders), obeying figures of authority, and being just toward others.
