Polypeptides are broken down by hydrolysis reactions into their amino acid monomers. Given this, why don’t we need to worry about our own proteins dissolving in the rain while walking to campus? (This would be a serious problem in rainy states like Oregon!)
Group of answer choices
A. While exergonic, this reaction does not occur unless its activation energy threshold is crossed
B. This reaction is highly endergonic, so it needs a large input of energy in order to happen
C. Our water-proof skin prevents exposure of peptide bonds to the corrosive effects of water
D. Proteins in the skin can not be broken down by hydrolysis
